ACTION X PRE-ORDER UPDATE

This message is for anyone who has pre-ordered Shimoda Action X products through our US website: www.shimodadesigns.com/en/home, or any other retailer hosting a pre-order (B&H).

We are expecting a delay in delivery from our originally forecasted April delivery date. We will not have a confident understanding of the delay until our factory is able to return to work and evaluate the production impacts from the Coronavirus outbreak. We have updated our delivery date to May.

Today (Monday 17th of February), a small portion of our factory’s staff will restart work. Although it will mostly be management and for the most part they will be working remotely from home. We are hoping to have a more accurate assessment of the impacts caused by the delay over the next week. With that said, we have never experienced anything like Coronavirus before and it is very much an unpredictable situation. I cannot say with confidence when production will resume.

CORONAVIRUS IMPACT ON PRODUCTION

For some further understanding how this has impacted our current production, please see below.

Our factory located in Tanzhou Town of Guangdong Province (very close to HK and Macau), was meant to return from Chinese New Year (CNY) at the start of February. At the same time, remaining materials would arrive from South Korea that would allow Action X production lines to start up and eventually enable us to fulfill orders.

Because of the Coronavirus, our South Korea textile supplier was not able to export textiles. The 3rd party receiver initially had to reject the shipment sighting the Coronavirus as the reason. Fortunately, that specific restriction has now been lifted and textiles are on route.

Travel restrictions have also prevented workers from returning to their places of work within China. As well, it has prevented myself from visiting the factory. (Most workers return home during the CNY holiday – often across the country and require significant and crowded travel to return back to work.)

If Coronavirus wasn’t a concern, the factory would have been running as usual at the start of February (post CNY). Action X production would have been able to re-start and have been completed for the end of March and we would ship out goods out as planned.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Again, if you need to make adjustments to your order, please let me know.

To be clear: at this time we do not expect the delay to be too overly long – but we also we do not have an estimation of when you should receive your pre-order. Will not know until the factory communicates a delivery date.
