95KM WITH AN EXPLORE 30
Dec 10th 2018
Team Shimoda member, World Cup UCI/EWS mountain bike photographer and all around accomplished human Sven Martin recently did an overnight mountain bike adventure with his Explore 30 and lovely wife (professional mountain biker) Anka Martin.
Together they rode the Heaphy track on the South Island of New Zealand, where they live in the off-season. The ride is on a ‘shared-use’ trail that wanders through the biggest National Park in Kahurangi. It passes over mountains, along coastlines and through dense forests.
Sven chose to ride with his pack set up for side-access, which is ideal when riding a mountain bike and getting quick images on the trail without having to dismount from your bike. His Explore 30 was loaded up with a Sony body, 2 lenses and breakfast, lunch and dinner for 2 (what a gentleman). He also packed it with a clothing, jackets, a sleeping bag, snacks, tools, first aid, headlamp, cooking supplies, a mug, some cutlery… “And some alcohol.” – he noted.
That is a big load for a small bag. Considering the ride was 95km’s on a one-way single-track that required an airplane ride back, I would have to say that both the Explore 30, Sven and his wife Anka; are quite the workhorses.
